Alternative Funding Network |

For the next Alternative Funding Network seminar, on Thursday March 16th, we're bringing together a group of companies that are working to change the way corporate supply chains are funded, using different takes on Supply Chain Finance.
SCF typically uses technology to link together larger customers with their smaller suppliers through electronic invoicing systems. Once the customer approves an electronic invoice for payment, funders can advance money to the supplier immediately, using the approved invoice – backed by the creditworthiness of the customer – as security. This enables the larger customer to extend its supplier payment terms often to 90 days or more, enhancing its own cash position without starving its suppliers of cash flow thanks to the availability of immediate funding provided either by a bank or from an alternative source.
The really neat twist at the centre of this arrangement is that the smaller supplier is able to obtain finance against its approved invoices based on the credit rating of its larger customer, rather than its own – which should result in cheaper funding. In effect, the larger company loans its credit rating to its smaller suppliers in exchange for longer payment terms.
SCF is a relatively complex product and is one of the lesser-known areas of business finance. But it has attracted growing attention in the past few years – so we'll be asking panellists from three tech-based players , and to explain how it works and delve in to the ways that technology is changing the relationship between buyers and sellers in the corporate world.
